Issues Important to Our Neighborhoods

Satya's responses to:

Accessible and Responsive Government

I believe that my neighbors, and our neighborhoods, are a key piece of what makes this city great. I believe neighborhoods should have a strong voice in the city government process. As your alder, I can echo that voice, and make it louder at City Hall.

I also believe that government—which is supposed to be for and by the people—should not be a black box. Our neighbors deserve to know and understand the decisions made at City Hall that will have an impact on this district, and to be fully involved in making those decisions.

If elected, I will work to:

  • Provide active and accessible representation for our neighbors.
  • Keep city government open and accountable to all residents.
  • Build partnerships among neighborhood, community and business organizations to strengthen our neighborhoods and our city.

Transportation that Works for Everyone

Transportation is at the heart of Madison’s social and economic landscape. Our roads, bike paths, sidewalks, and public transit system allow us to get to all the places that make Madison such a great city.

But our current transportation system is not adequately serving all residents, especially in our district. Our neighbors should have access to a more affordable, more convenient public transit system. Our children should be able to cross the district’s streets safely. Some of these are citywide, or even countywide decisions; some come down to individual blocks. Either way, I will be an advocate for a transportation system that meets our needs.

If elected, I will work to:

  • Ensure that we have an affordable and accessible public transit system, including strengthening and expanding Metro.
  • Build collaborations with public officials across Dane County to improve commuter options while keeping our neighborhood streets safe and pedestrian friendly.
  • Improve bike routes and make them safer for recreational and commuting bicyclers.
  • Invest in traffic safety by planning new residential and commercial development intelligently, and by installing traffic calming where appropriate.

A Safe Community

A healthy neighborhood is one in which we can all feel safe in our homes; enjoying our yards and parks; walking on the sidewalks; biking on the streets; swimming and boating on our lakes; and commuting to and from our community. While we all love Madison and our neighborhoods, there is much that can be done to preserve and grow the things that are critical to our quality of life.

It is a primary goal of government to guarantee safe, healthy, and livable communities. I believe that we all deserve to live in a vibrant community without fear for our health or safety.

If elected, I will work to:

  • Keep our neighborhoods safe both through responsive, neighborhood-based policing and by addressing the root causes of crime.
  • Keep our streets safe through traffic calming and good planning.
  • Keep our drinking water safe through good management, proactive investment in infrastructure and improved communication with the public.

I am always interested to know what you think about these issues and any others that are important to you. Please email me anytime or call me at 242-4426. I look forward to hearing from you!
